College coaches get hundreds of recruiting emails. The ones they open have the athlete's event, marks and graduation year in the subject line. That is most of the trick.
The email
- Subject line: event, best mark, graduation year. Nothing else.
- Three sentences in the body. Who you are, what you have run, why this program.
- One link. Verified results. Not a highlight reel with music.
The timeline
Contact rules differ by division and they change. Check the current calendar for the division you are targeting before you assume silence means no — often it means a coach legally cannot reply yet.
